One of his kin folks was similarly listed as missing and wound up at the Point Lookout, Maryland prison camp.

John C. Applewhite, age 30, Private, (New) Company H, 12th Mississippi Infantry, enrolled May 5, 2861 at Cornith by Captain Walker for 12 months, reported missing in the battle Sunday, Aug. 21, 1864, on the Petersburg & Weldon R. R., no further records

Applewhite, age 22, 3rd Corporal, (New) Company H, 12th Mississippi Infantry, mustered into service April 27,1861 at Union Church, Mississippi, recorded as Captain the end of the year, 1862, wounded in the thigh in the battle Sunday, Aug. 21, 1864, on the Petersburg & Weldon R. R., captured at Fort Grett/Petersburg, Va. April 2, 1865, sent to Johnson's Island, April 9, arrived at Depot Prisoners of War, near Sandusky, Ohio April 11, released on oath June 17,1865, age 26, resident of Caseyville, Miss.

Benjamin L. Applewhite, (New) Company H, enlisted as a Private, age 19, May 5, 1861 at Corinth, Mississippi, reported missing in the battle Sunday, Aug. 21, 1864, on the Petersburg & Weldon R. R., taken prisoner August 21, 1864 at Weldon R. R., sent to Point Lookout, Md. Prison Camp arriving August 24, 4th Sergeant, exchanged Feb. 10, 1865, subsequently re-captured, paroled at Richmond, Va., n.d., admitted May 6, 1865 to U. S. A. General Hospital, Point Lookout, Md, with Chronic Diarrhoea, transportation provided from Washington, D. D. to Copiah County, Mississippi about May 16, 1865

Davis L. Applewhite, age 35, Private, (New) Company H, 12th Mississippi Infantry, mustered into service April 27, 1861 at Union Church, Mississippi, discharged on Surgeon's certificate October 5, 1861

Elisha L. Applewhite, Student, age 17, Private, (New) Company H, 12th Mississippi Infantry, mustered into service April 27, 1861 at Union Church, Mississippi, advanced to 2nd & 1st Corporal, n.d., wounded in the hand at the battle Sunday, Aug. 21, 1864, on the Petersburg & Weldon R. R., resident of Copiah County, Mississippi, present on the December 5, 1864 muster roll, listed on the February 14, 1865 muster roll as present "Since on furlough," recorded on a list of absentees from from February 15 to March 28, 1865, no further records

1864.
August 16.— Left the entrenchments, Battery No. 28 near Peters-
burg, Virginia. Marched to Fussell's Mill, north side of James
River.
August 18.— Engaged the enemy. Lost one man killed.
August 20.— Returned to Petersburg.
August 21-22.— Engaged the enemy near Weldon Railroad. Lost
one officer and two men wounded and one officer and eight men
prisoners. Returned to our former position August 22.
September 9.— One man captured on picket.
Stationed near Petersburg, Virginia, September-October 1864.
October 27.— Left the trenches and marched to Burgess' Mill,
southwest of Petersburg. Skirmished with the enemy, lost none.
October 28.— Returned to our former position in the trenches.

Stationed near Petersburg, Virginia, November-December 1864.
November 9-11.— Left the entrenchments in the evening. Went
into camp near the Ennis House on November 11.
December 7-14.— Left camp. Marched to near Belfield, Vir-
ginia. Returned to camp on December 14.
