Michael, I have not been able to get your post out of my head. Nevermind this Confederate was not Sam Willson, but the only Texas troops to serve in the ANV were the 1st, 4th and 5th TX Infantry regiments. There was a 1st Texas Legion (Whitfield's 27th Cav.) briefly in early 1862 that fought dismounted at Corinth and Iuka. And there are three men named McCarthy that served in Co. L, 1st Texas Infantry.

Can you tell me more about the man who was reportedly shot at early in the Gettysburg battle? This is an interesting story.
