Elon Farnsworth was the son of Congressman,personal friend of Abe Lincoln, John Farnsworth his Cavalry was trained at Camp Kane a mile south of the old Elliott homestead on the Fox River in IL..The Farnsworth Mansion was across the river from the camp. Still there.Supposedly the first shot fired at Gettysburg was from 8IL.Cav. at Mr. Wilson I believe... I have a picture of the two post war, he missed. I would have to find the book it's a local history.I know the picture I just can't remember but, think it was Mr. Wilson. I know from a Texas Regiment for sure. My GGGrandfather was Capt. of the Elon Farnsworth G.A.R. post war.
