Thanks for your efforts to help me sort out the POW fate of James Wesley Thomas. I searched through the Ancestry.com Civil War POW files in M598 for others with identical or similar names (e.g., J.W. Thomas), and have not come up with any other leads. James W. Thomas of the 42nd Va. did receive a pension from the state of Virginia and cited his 2 July 63 wound as the basis of his disability. The link I included from Ancestry.com from M598 is just one of many pages before and after it of CS POWs, most of whom apear to have been captured during the Gettysburg campaign and transferred to Ft. Delaware. Had you seen this document before? Does it coincide with anything in the Ft. Delware references that you have?
