Trip to Texas went well..."Nap Town"

Hi Mike -

my Texas trip went well; distributed updated info to Confederate Research Center in Hillsboro and even located the likely burial site of my gg-uncle in Clarksville, Texas (done in my Freedman's Bureau Agents circa 1868).

Also checked out the FABULOUS Texas Civil War Museum NW of Fort Worth....this is a MUST SEE collection...!!!!!

Nap Town (Indianapolis) and Indiana in general has a LARGE population of folks with Southern ancestry (Indiana is the "Northernmost Southern State"); massive migrations here before the Civil War from the South (Lincoln's family moved here from Kentucky for example).

Culture-wise, I find people here in Indy are sorta a mix of Southern (Kentucky, Tennessee) and Northern (Chicago-Midwestern) in speech patterns and mannerisms. You can see tobacco being grown in Southern Indiana (like Southern Illinois) and hear "y'all" quite frequently there.

Think Uncle Abe worried about the Knights of the Golden Circle here in Hoosier Land with probably good reason....?

:-)

Not surprising that the folks here in Indy treated the memory of the CSA POWs at Camp Morton fairly decently (think they could relate to the Southerners being imprisoned there).
