Re: Camp Morton POWs burial mound...

Kenneth,

How did your trip to Hillsboro go?

It is interesting you live a few minutes from Crown Hill.I had a 9th Battalion Tn Cavalry ancestor that was at Camp Morton for several months after being captured at Donelson.I visited the site of the POW camp in Indianapolis about 8 years ago.As you know, the actual site is basicaly a one or two acre vacant lot now with only an historical marker. We also went to Crown Hill and viewed the Confederate marker for the prisoners who died at the prison.I was amazed that up in yankeeland the people would have put up such an impressive marker.

Was also very impressed with that outstanding Crown Hill Cemetery. Was it Garfield or McKinley who is buried there?I cant remember now without digging out my pictures.I also seem to recollect that Abel Straight is buried at Crown Hill.We all recollect what Forrest did to Colonel Straight.

Indianapolis is a beautifull city and has that great museum downtown.

Mike
