David, thanks for your message. Yes indeed, it is an overwhelming tide, as more and more people place pages online, many of which include errors and misleading information, and many also without source notes for the viewer to verify these statements.
The author of the pages related to in the first two examples at my cautionary message tried a number of times to divert attention from what the original discussion was all about, namely the numerous errors (and I don't mean one, two or three errors) that are shown at his articles, but it was clear what his methods were. Now, as I proceed to verify some of the statements at his biographies of certain crew members of the CSS ALABAMA, I am finding additional errors and misleading information, and these only through the help of the documented evidence I have at hand. Who knows what additional errors I would find with much further in-depth investigation. One error which I have noted from the beginning, was his naming of a crew member as George Horwood, yet all published sources name this person as George Harwood, and not Horwood (see my latest posting). Even reliable sources, such as dispatches of James D. Bulloch and commander Waddell, of the CSS SHENANDOAH, name this boatswain as Harwood. Lately I have also found at least two errors in his biography of George Yeoman, another sailor on the ALABAMA. Yeoman's own signed affidavit shows at least two statements that contradict the information shown at this author's bio of Yeoman. I am confident of uncovering much more errors, as I obtain documentation from archives and other similar repositories in the UK and elsewhere. The author himself has stated in a message that he sometimes includes misleading information, which makes his information rather unreliable.
