In Response To: Meeting on Conestoga ()

Hello,

Grant and Foote met at Cairo between January 3-5 to discuss a Tenn. River reconnaissance. Most likely they met on the headquarters wharfboat. The Lexington was sent to Paducah on the 5th to become station ship, allowing the current station ship, the Conestoga, to begin the reconnaissance up the Tennessee from Paducah on January 6. See my "The Timberclads in the Civil War," p. 190.
