Regarding the manner in which the C.S.S. Arkansas might have taken on coal, as well as any other articles of bulk, one might search the sketch, done in pencil, by a fellow named Milliken. The fore and aft decks show but capstans; the only break line in the port side, slightly elevated view is in the foward area of the casement between the stack and where the guy cables for support of the stack attach to the front casement. The Milliken drawing is a close as we can hope for of an image of the vessel as she truly was.
