I cannot remember his full defence, but I think he was tried on two occasions, the first time during which he managed to get out of being charged, but he was dismissed after the second trial, in August, 1863. Also, he was not the only officer to be placed on trial, from the USS ARIZONA, who had been involved in such activities.
