Besides Kennon, there were a number of other officers from the former Confederate States Navy, who went to Egypt, to serve under the Khedive. I just found out today, that one of these former CSN officers was the first American who died in the service of the Khedive. This was Cornelius E. Hunt, who had served aboard the CSS SHENANDOAH, and had been accidentally killed in a fall from his horse, in 1873.
