In Response To: USS Eastport Ironclad/Ram ()

Eastport currently lies under some land belonging to Judge Mike Wahlder, near Montgomery, LA. A few years ago the Corps of Engineers dug down to the boat, and a few artifacts were recovered, after which the hole was refilled. The Edward Dix sank on top of Eastport about a year after Eastport went down, so both boats are more or less intertwined. The Navy still claims to own the boat, although I've been told by a lawyer who claims to know that scuttling is a legal act of abandonment. The US Navy has two rules concerning this sort of thing. Rule 1 says, "If it ever belonged to us, it still belongs to us." Rule 2 says, "See Rule 1."
