Good points! I'll read through them and see how they hold up as a story on its own. I had to do what you said with another book I'm working on (and almost completed) as it was a memoir of a Confederate naval officer, but it couldn't stand on its own and needed a lot of explanation to explain what was going on. I just used small portions of the memoirs to give "flavor"
