Re: Lt, George E. Dixon (children)

In 1971 I was assigned duty to a submarine tender being built in Quincy, Mass. The ship was Commissioned later that year as USS Dixon AS-37. It was named for Lt Dixon. The Navy also had a submarine tender named the H L Hunley. Most submarine tenders were named for significant people with submarine ties, etc. I have never heard that Lt Dixon had children or that he was or had ever been married. It was my understanding that DNA samples were taken from maternal relatives because he had no descendants. Oh well, shows what I know. I was honored to have been a part of the funeral services held in Charleston for the crew. I will always cherish the event as a fitting ceremony to some very brave men. John
