My father was named after Frederic Davis, who appears to have been a great great uncle to my father. We are looking into the Rhode Island connection since that is our heritage. We had a relative, no longer living, who was a Civil War enthusiast; he donated Frederic's letters and diaries to a "university in the south" (Emory) probably because he recognized their value to historians. We would appreciate any information you have on Frederic and we can provide likewise. From what I can determine, he enlisted in the Rhode Island 4th Infantry Regiment, but I do not know how he came to be on a gunboat.
