Just a quick clarification re the presence of stern ports on the Missouri. Maj. A.M. Jackson of the Tenth U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery reported in April, 1865 that two deserters from the Missouri had been interviewed. He states, "No ports in the stern". They also stated, "The smoke stack is twenty feet forward of the main hatch." Missouri is usually quoted as being capable of 6-8 mph under power, but the deserter interviews assert "She has never attempted to stem the current alone." OR Series 1, vol 48, Part 2 pg 240. It sounds as if the model of the vessel may be wrong about number of stacks.
