Submarine Operator, U.S.S. Pinola

Commander Bell, aboard the U.S.S. Hartford, issued instructions prepatory to the attack on obstructions in the Mississippi River on April 20, 1862. One of these instructions was to the U.S.S. Pinola, that a Submarine Operator (Mine Technician in today's parlance.)was coming aboard and to afford him all assistance.
Does anyone know the identity of this Submarine Operator?
