The Appleton's Cyclopedia entry for George Nichols Hollins, senior, contradicts his death date, and place, showing it as being in Baltimore, Maryland, January, 1878, yet a check of the death indices for Baltimore, and also Maryland, as a whole, shows no entry for George Hollins in that year. There are, however, entries in 1875 and 1876, though I cannot be sure if either one of these was the same person who was a captain in the Confederate Navy.
