Has anyone found anything that would indicate that the Baltic (towboat/cotton lighter) at Mobile which was converted into a light ironclad, originally belonged to one of Charles Morgan's companies? The reason I ask was that I recently ran across a short list of vessels seized by the Confederates at New Orleans. There is a separate paragraph that seems to include the Baltic at Mobile. I was under the impression that the State of Alabama purchased the Baltic and began the conversion, then turned it over to the Confederate Navy. Is this incorrect?
