I have copies of the OR/naval side. The ship was ordered to help in the pursuit of Jeff Davis. The CO at the time was a George Ransom.
She was at Hampton Roads before being ordered to the South Atlantic/Gulf of Mexico.
The government felt that Davis would try a sea borne escape.
