You are right and I agree with you there was no 8th Michigan Battery officially, just as there was no Flying Battery or DeGolyer's Battery, or Elliott's Battery or as General Logan referred to them The Black Horse Battery officially, the battery was referred to by all these names at one time or another in its service. FYI the 8th comes from the letter “H” being the 8th letter in the Alphabet.
