Re: Letters from Robert Cobb to an old veteran

I got a reply from David Johnson tonight about these letters. He is the decendent of William E Thompson. He attempted to post here about them but was not able to for some reason, so he asked me to pass this message along for him.

"Ray;

Tried to post on the historysites board and was unsuccessful. Here is
the content I wanted to post. Feel free to pass it along:

Those letters from Cobb were to my grandfather's grandfather, William E. Thompson. I'm glad they ended up over here and don't mind at all if they are of use to you in writing your book. I don't know much more about Thompson and the Civil War, but I have some papers that have been passed down to me which I'll dig out and look through. If I turn up anything worthwhile, I'll post the info here.
As an aside, the other side of my grandfather's family tree are McKees from Lawrenceburg, KY, too. I have been told that one Sam McKee, a Union LT, died at Murfreesboro. I haven't been able to positively confirm his relation beyond anecdote, but if so, then it's another example of how the war split families, as I do know of other McKees who were active Confederates.
