Not vary. Poor quality. During the bombardment at Gettysburg tp prepare for Pickett's charge, under Alexander's command, many fuses were defective and caused "long" or overshoots, also some "shorts". The longs impacted in the rear areas of the federal army behind cemetary ridge. They landed in the yard of the house being used by Meade as his headquarters. He had to leave and seek a new HQ. The confederate overshots also landed in the yard of a union hospital.

The confederate infantry were nervous having these shells and fuses being fired over them.
