Re: Gerhard Brother
In Response To: Gerhard Brother ()

To: Frank Campo and Kim Leese,
I didn't know if I was supposed to answer these separate or together but will answer together and hope you both get it as I really appreciate both of you responding.
I only have what I have found from researching for about 6 years as follows, The 3 brothers volunteered to serve with the union but they would not accept Frederick as he had a bad eye so he joined the confederate as General Lee's cook.
John was the oldest and was assigned to Co. G 1st NY mounted rifles. His company was sent to the Southwest in 1854 where it was involved in the Navajos held at Ft Sumner, he had some medical training and was assigned as a male nurse. After his discharge he bought a ranch and raised his family there and is buried on his ranch. I have not been able to find much on Joseph, only that after his discharge he settled in Boston, Ma. married there and raised a family of nine and died there.
Thank you again and help more if you can. Sincerely, June
