18lb. cannonball

Hi, new here. I'm looking for information on what I think is a cannonball. I lived in Houston several years ago and at a place where ground was being disturbed for new housing I found this iron ball. I wasn't sure what it was, and speculated it might be a cannonball but never really pursued it. This weekend my interest was renewed after watching "The Alamo". They mentioned cannons by size as referring to the weight of the balls. Specifically they mentioned 12 and 18 lb. balls. I weighed this one and it is right at 18 lbs. I think it is solid iron (no fuse holes)and it is approx. 4.5 inches in diameter. The place where I found it is now the intersection of Fondren and Belfort in Houston (Bellaire area). This is about 20 - 30 miles west of the San Jacinto monument. I don't know of any civil war activity in that area, but it could likely be within the eastward trek of Houston as he drew Santa Anna to San Jacinto. Any insight or suggestions where I can confirm what this is is appreciated. Thanx!
