The guns of the Tenth Illinois were likely "Woodruff" guns, built in Quincy, IL, and of 2-1/8 inch (smooth) bore. A more accurate description of their manufacture and material would be to call them wrought-iron, not steel. Randy Baehr in Missouri is the resident expert.
