Runyons/Burris

Hello all:

I am looking for assistance in regards to the 1st Reg. Cav. Vols, 5th Reg. Inf. vols, and 13th Reg. Inf. Vols. I have several ancestors that participated in these units in the Civil War, and am particularly interested in trying to trace back my ancestry in order to claim unclaimed Civil War medals issued by the state of West Virginia to them. Of particular interest to me are George W. Runyan of Co. G of the 5th Reg. Infantry and James Burress (Burris) of Co. H of the 13th Reg. Infantry. Sadly, I have not had much luck in finding out information about these two, and particularly believe James Burress to be my 3rd great grandfather, who also claimed service in the 39th Ky and received a pension based on that service. Allegedly, James mustered into Co. H on 12/11/1862 at the age of 18, but I believe he lied about his age in order to join. I can not find out if he stayed in the 13th the entire time, or if he went AWOL or transferred to the 39th KY, etc. as that would help me tremendously in finding out if he is the same James Burress I believe him to be.

Any help much appreciated.
