I have 26 letters handed down in my family written from the front home, and some written from mother in law to daughter in law and other various family members. These folks were in Alabama and Georgia. They talk about a lot of neighborhood news as well as news from the front. A few of the letters have been flipped over and the back used to write again. Some of them are written in pencil and some look to be with ink. I even have one or two on lined blue paper. They started writing in 1859 through my gg grandfather and gg uncles' deaths not long after Vicksburg fell. Then they start up again in the late 1880's when some move to TX. We have around 100 letters and postcards from that time period. One even mentions the Galveston hurricane. Anyway, I am rambling now. don't mind sharing if anyone is interested.
