I have come across one reference about Pennsylvanians joining the Confederate army from a soldier correspondent whose letter was published in the 20 September Richmond Daily Dispatch. On 12 September 1862, A.T., a soldier in J.R. Jones' division, wrote about what he observed in Frederick, Md., on or after 6 September: "Whilst there about 1,800 Marylanders enlisted in the army. Many came down from Pennsylvania and joined. I saw a squad of eight Pennsylvanians myself, who reported numbers of others as on their way to join us." Given the publication date of the report in the Mobile paper, perhaps the Mobile paper's story was based on A.T.'s report.
