Philadelphia General Hospital

I'm not quite sure how to start this post. My gg grandfather served for the union in the 7th WV Infantry. He enlisted in 12/1861 and died of Typhoid fever supposedly at Philadelphia Gen'l Hospital 8/31 or 9/1/1862.

I am getting this information from pension papers filed on behalf of this man's minor orphaned children.

The papers were very sketchy (sp?) about his death. They say that he went in the hospital 7/1862 in Winchester VA and died at Phil. PA. Would it seem strange that he was transported this distance during that time? I really would like to know where he is buried and anything about this Union hospital in Philadelphia, or what might have been in Winchester VA?

I am from WI and not familiar with this area.

Thank you for any direction with my research.
