24th Ohio at Cheat Mountain - 1861

According to some newspaper accounts I found, Company H of the 24th Ohio Infantry lost one man to an accident while on Cheat Mountain, Virginia in October 1861.
While they were marching down the mountain to attack the rebels at Greenbrier River on the morning of October 3, 1861, a soldier fell over the side of the mountain and seriously injured himself. According to a letter written by the Captain of Company H, the man died the following day. Unfortunately, the soldiers name is not mentioned. Another account mentions that the man was a German.

An examination of the Ohio Roster Commission Volume 3, the muster roll of the 24th shows several men killed in battle on October 3, 1861, and mentions several who died on Cheat Mountain several days after the battle. None of them have a notation for death from a fall.

Does anyone have any additional information on this soldier?

Thank you,
