The Ohio Military History Book reads as follows: The 175th was on guard duty south of Columbia along the Tennessee and Alabama Railroad when Hoods ivasion began,and one of its outposts was captured.Falling back to Franklin,the regiment was first under fire in the battle,takiing a gallant part of the defense of the entrenchments,repelling charge after charge,and losing 161 officers and men.
