I read an account of Harry Hays' wife returning a flag to the G.A.R. that she said belonged to the 57th Ohio and was captured at Gettysburg. If I am not mistaken the 57th Ohio was at Vicksburg at this time. There was a 57th Penn nearby on Cemetery Hill but a veteran of that unit said it was an Ohio flag. There was the 75th Ohio, though, that fought against Hays' Louisianians and looks like they got roughed up.

Can anyone confirm, and with a source if possible, that the 75th Ohio lost its flag? I've seen ONE secondary source that states this but am unable to find its source.
