Searching for information about James Henry Ward, and African American who participated in the Civil War with Company A of the Thirty-sixth Ohio Infantry. He is not listed in any database as an official member of the regiment, which suggests he may have been a personal servant to an officer. Two captains commanded Company A, Hiram Fosdick Devol and James Gage Barker. A number of lieutenants are on the company rolls, including Augustus T. Ward (connection?), Jonathan N Patton, James C. Selby, and Andrew J. Temple.

Ward may also have been a cook or teamster.

It is possible he was connected to the Ward family of Marietta, Ohio.
