Thank you. I'll start checking out the sources that you mentioned. If he was 18 at the time of enlistment, then he's not my direct ancestor, but he still could be a relative. Not too many Hearnes folks running around.

On another note, I know that the NPS CWSSS does not have the sailors up in the database. Do you happen to know (or does anyone else know) a good place to start in researching possible sailors from OH? Some of the Hearnes people were Great Lakes captains, and I'm just wondering if any of them served in the US Navy.
