Hello Brent, One of my favorite stories about Ohioians at Gettysburg was found in a newspaper article in the Columbus Dispatch from 1913. During the battle of Gettysburg Henry K. Spooner who was an assistant surgeon for the 55th OVI had the nerve enough to bring his family onto the battlefield while minie balls were flying. His little girl was only 3 years old at the time and was in harms way but she escaped unhurt. During the 1913 reunion at Gettysburg she tried to attend but was turned down by the state of Ohio. In other words the state refused to pay for her transportation to Gettysburg. As far as I know she was the only female from Ohio at that time in 1913 who had been on the battlefield. I sent the Gettysburg historian within the NCA the copy of the article. Thx Dennis
