William H. Eckman, 23; c.1838 born (based on stated age 23 in 1861) Dec. 11, 1861 sergeant, Company H, 73rd Ohio Infantry Rgt. Jan. 1, 1863 appointed commissary sergeant; Feb. 1, 1863 second lieutenant, Company I; Feb. 14, 1864 married Anna Robbins in Highland county, Ohio; March 19, 1864 first lieutenant and regimental quartermaster; March 30, 1865 resigned; April 30, 1882 or 1892 (difficult to read date) applied for a pension while living in Ohio (pension certificate number 866211); Jan. 16, 1902 his widow Anna applied for a pension while living in Ohio (certificate number 529732).

Peter L. Echman (spelling as given in Ohio records) Eckman, 38; c.1824 born (based on stated age in 1862) Aug. 28, 1862 private, Company D, 5th Ohio Cavalry Rgt. June 26, 1865 mustered out at Raleigh, N. C. Oct. 2, 1867 his widow Susanna applied for a pension. (Eckman is spelling in pension index)

There was also a William L. Eckman who served in regimental band and Company B, 5th Ohio Cavalry Rgt. He applied for a pension on April 1, 1891 and his widow applied on Dec. 28, 1907.
