Re: 111th Ohio Infantry - CS flags at Nashville

Eric,

>>>Hi, I can't give you definitive answer about Nashville but I can tell you that the 111th Ohio is often credited with taking a flag of the 4th Florida at Franklin. This is not true. The Florida regiment never got to the Union works and the 111th Ohio was significantly east of the 4th Florida's position. Recent evidence suggests the flag was likely captured at Nashville, not Franklin. Eric

Eric,

The flag in question is not that of the 4th Florida either. The 4th Florida flag was taken in battle near this time but it is an Augusta Depot pattern flag. The flag sent back to Florida in 1927 was a Charleston Depot pattern, which these Florida units did not have.
