In The Official Records Of The Civil War in Vol.XLV. Chapter LVII pages 624-626 ther is a report from J.S.Jones Colonel Commanding the 174th O.V.I. to Colonel M.T.Thomas on the battle. He states; My Major B.C.G.Reed,was shot dead from his horse while charging the enemie's works. He was an excellant officer, possessing most chivalrous and daring courage, and fell gloriously while waving his sword while beckoning the line forward. Sounds like a brave man to me.
