I found three Samuel Bachtells but only one who had achived the rank of Major. Samuel Bachtell,enlisted as a Lieutenant 2nd Class on April 20,1861 at the age of 28.Commission in Co.I. 15th O.V.I. on April 27,1861.Mustered out of Co. I.15th O.V.I. on August 28,1861.Promoted to Full Lieutenant 2nd Class on September 12,1861,[As of Co. D. 15th O.V.I. Commission in Co. D. 15th O.V.I. on September 12,1861.Transfered on May 21,1862 from Co. D. to Co. I. Promoted to Full Captain on March 3 1863,[As of Signal Corps.]Discharged for promotion from Co. I. 15th O.V.I. on March 3,1863.Commission in Signal Corps Regiment RA on March 3,1863.Promoted Full Lieutenant 1st Class on March 7,1863. Promoted to Brevet Major on March 13,1865.Promoted to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel on March 13,1865.Mustered out of Signal Corps RA on September 20,1865. I do not know if this is the same person or not.
