As one who has spent many hours in the Ohio State Archives scrolling Civil War newspapers, I can tell you that they are well worth the time to go through them. I have found countless letters form troops in the field as well as battle reports that can be found nowhere else. Also of great interest are the casualty reports.

YOu will need to find out what Ohio counties your regiment came from adn then check the newspapers in all of them. The Ohio Historical Society has a great website that can be used to find what newspapers they have - go to www.ohiohistory.org
