Re: John W. Hamilton a short bio

Hello Glen, The bio's are interesting to me in many respects. Looking at Wikipedia for General Wheeler I find he was captured near Conyers, Georgia (located in present day Rockdale County) with 3 other officers and 11 enlisted men. When Hamilton said "Wheeler was taken to Covington, Georgia after his capture" this would have been very close to Conyers, Georgia. Everything about the bio seems to hold water except for his rank, like you I only found him as a lieutenant and not as a Captain. It would appear the bio is correct although I would liked to have had another source listing his company in this area of Georgia. I was a little familar with the 12th OVC at Sailsbury, North Carolina in April 1865 but knew nothing of their regiment or companies being sent to Georgia in May of 1865.
