Hi, I am in search of a lost relative who went to the US to fight in the Civil War (form Canada) and was never heard from again. (History of Antigonish Vol 2 Pg 92) I have found two Lachlin/Laughlin in the Civil War Index, one from Michigan and one from PA. Is there any follow up information on:

Cameron, Laughlin, Bay County . Enlisted in compapy M, Third 'Cavalry,
Sept. 16, 1861, at East Saginaw, for 3 years, age 32  Mustered Oct. 14,
1861. Discharged at expiration of ter~ of service at Brownsville,
Ark., Oct. 24, 1864.

He isn't showing in any census I can find and I am not sure if there is a way (other then pensions) that soldiers were tracked after the war. I haven't found him on the pensions but I haven't had a lot of luck searching those at all. The PA Cameron was a substitute which I am wondering since he wasn't a US citizen if that might be more likely him. Everyone had assumed he died during the war but both records say he discharged.
