Hi Pat:
I looked through all of the info that I have and cannot locate him. As he died almost a month after his wounding he would have initially had an identified grave. It is pretty slim that he was sent home. Just guessing, when he was moved to a permanent site or his headstone was replaced the original marking on the wooden headboard was illegible and he was marked as an unknown.
