Volume 38, Issue 1 of the publication "Michigana" of the Western Michigan Genealogical Society contains an article entitled "Selected Civil War Letters Published in Michigan Newspapers." There are a number of articles attributed to members of various Michigan Regiments including the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 24th and 26th Infantry. Also listed are the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Cavalry.

Major Thomas Fitzgibbon of the 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry is mentioned in one letter (from Ed. Batwell, Surg.)regarding his court martial, and is the author of two letters regarding the 14th, both published in the Grand Rapids Eagle newspaper, one on April 23, 1963 and a second on May 12, 1863.
