You're probably aware that copies of Stillwell's military service file are available here, but wanted to be certain that you hadn't overlooked that source of information.

Rather than filing for a pension, let me suggest that the widow filed for payment due her husband at the time of his death. Also, I'm not at all certain when Congress had made provisions for pension payments to hundreds of thousands of Federal veterans, but it must have occurred after the war, not in 1865. There should be some record of this claim and payment in Stillwell's service file --
