Michigan 8th Infantry Soldier

I was wondering if any one knew what the value of an authentic Civil War Diary might be. I have the Diary of John W. Doane of the 8th Michigan Infantry who mustered in 1861 in Company C and later through promotion to Company H as a 1st St. The Diary starts on April 27th 1863 and covers to Oct 21st 1863. We would like to include this on our HomeOwners Policy, but was not sure what to insure for. Any help would be appreciated.
