For information on this regiment, and any Michigan regiment refer to these books: "The Red Book of Michigan", "Michigan In The War", and also "History of the City of Grand Rapids" These books can be viewed by going to GOOGLE and
putting in the title of these books (Use the search books feature) They can also be downloaded free to your computer. They are wonderful books.

The Tenth Michigan Cavalry served mostly in East Tennessee, and after August 10, 1864 were under the command of General Alvan Cullem Gillem, who commanded a brigade known as The Tennessee Governor's Guard. The Tenth took part in the Battle of Bull's Gap, and several other smaller engagements in East Tennessee. They were with the brigade on September 4, 1864 during the killing of the Confederate raider, John Hunt Morgan. They were on Stoneman's raid to Virginia in December that destroyed the salt mines, and in the spring of 1865 they were in the pursuit of Jefferson Davis. The activities of this brigade are the subject of my up-coming book on this brigade. Yet untitled, but may be simply called "Gillem."
