Robert, I would guess James was an officer?Taken to Atlanta and held at the Masonic Lodge till Feb.26,1863 tranfered to Libby exchanged in mid May returning to Murfreesboro around the 14th.He would of been paroled(paperwork) soon after capture but,these were not recognized by the Confederate Govt.at that time.Around 85 officers held from Stones River against the Dix-Hill Cartel agreement under direct orders of Jeff Davis.The negotiations included 350 Virginia civilians held by Federals.My GGGrandather was also captured in the opening minutes of the Battle of Stones River when the Confederate tide washed over them Dec.31,1862.
