The Michigan in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Why not Michigan?

Reca {Rica} Patterson was definetely in the 46th illinois. Civil war soldiers were mustered into by congressional district. If the number of soldiers per congressional district were met, some soldiers went to other recruiters. Some did it when the bounty payments came into effect and the enlistee went there for the higher payment. Some did it for a personal connection to a unit or political affiliation. Reca shows up in the Michigan 1890 veterans census living in battle creek michigan. I can email you a copy of the microfilm. I also see him buried in battle creek but without a headstone or its unreadable. I can look further if you want
